Reg Holder grew up on the West Coast of South Africa on his family’s farm ‘Doringboom’ (Thorn tree), which his parents acquired in 1992. 20kms from the ocean, evenings brought cool breezes after hot days, resulting in perfect conditions for grape growing. The farm produces Pinotage, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Muscat.

Reg met his wife Mia while at the University of Stellenbosch, where she studied Accounting and he pursued a degree in Viticulture and Oenology. After many enjoyable evenings filled with fine food & wine, they married and settled in Stellenbosch. Mia fell pregnant in 2015, and soon the couple longed for their enjoyed regular ritual of dinners with fine food & ‘wine’. Seeking a good non-alcoholized wine alternate, Mia quickly grew tired of fizzy & sweet non-alcoholic beverages. The couples passion for a quality non-alcoholized wine alternative to enjoy with food, friends and out of fancy glassware… lead to the birth of Lautus.

In 2017, the Lautus Sauvignon Blanc launched. Only after Lautus became available on the market, did the Holders realise what a vast need there was for a quality non-alcoholic wine alternative. Soon after, the Lautus Savvy Red blend was launched, then the Rose and about a year later the Sparkling Brut and Sparkling Rose. 

Today outside of South African, Lautus is enjoying strong sales growth in exports to Australia, various European countries and successfully launched in USA and Canada early 2022. A few product lines have also been added, including 250ml can versions launching in August ‘22.
